Dante hates Islam
Perceiving Islam Since Dante Divining Comedy
Reality and Imagination
By: Hasan Yahya, Ph.D
This article mixes reality with imagination, it’s not a propaganda for a new religion. I deal only with science in other places and this article. If you don’t like science and imagination, and sea them as theologians as desctructive to mind perception, you may (or may not) quit reading, because you may have other sound opinion.
Dante Alighieri (1265–1321) who was known as the “the Supreme Poet” the Petrarch, and Boccaccio as one of “the three fountains” or “the three crowns”. Dante who was also called the “Father of the Italian language”. Dante in his Divine Comedy wished in his poetry that Muhammad and Ali , not to be in heaven, when he says in Hill section XXVII, and XXVIII describing Richard:
The chief of the new Pharisees meantime,
Waging his warfare near the Lateran,
Not with the Saracens or Jews (his foes
All Christians were, nor against Acre one
Had fought, nor traffic’d in the Soldan’s land),(XXVII)
and in XXVIII, Dante says:
“How is Mohammed mangled! before me
Walks Ali weeping, from the chin his face
Cleft to the forelock; and the others all
Whom here thou seest, while they liv’d, did sow
Scandal and schism, and therefore thus are rent. (XXVIII)
May be Dante said his stanzas to satisfy some theologians of the time, who were defeated by Muslims after Hattin battle and the fall of Jerusalem prompted the Third Crusade which was financed in England by a special “Saladin tithe”. Richard I of England (Richard the Lionheart) led Guy’s siege of Acre, conquered the city and executed 3,000 Muslim prisoners, including women and children. While Saladin retaliated by killing all Franks captured from August 28 – September 10 the same year. Dante was born almost eighty years after Saladin victory in the Battle of Hittin in 1187, Hittin, is a Palestinian village, located approximately 8 kilometers (5.0 mi) west of Tiberias. Hittin in which Saladin conquered most of interior Palestine from the Crusaders, Hittin is a nationalist symbol for Arabs and Palestinians, it is also the place of the shrine of Nabi Shu’ayb.
Since Dante, Islam and its symbols became under scrutiny, which bring Muslims to the current situation in modern times. I think the scientific west has deviated from logical and reasoning lines and followed the imagination of poets and politicians these days. www.dryahyatv.com
