Ranks of Corruption and Democracy in the Arab World.
The Arab Manifesto Series
Dr. Hasan Yahya-Former Professor of comparative sociology.
While I am inclined not to believe such estimated data on world nations, because lack of measurement accuracy and appropriateness, which include rich and poor nations in one measure, and because, most corruption activities are not reported, I bring here data from 2009 corruption rankings for 180 countries in the World Democracy Audit are listed below (the source). However, this writer concern here is the Arab countries to learn how much corruption and how much democracy there. Some countries are involved in Billions as bribary, especially when it comes to arm deals or aircrafts deals or technological equipment deals through defence Ministers down of administration staff. Others are involved in bribes of millions, especially those in top ranks in governments, like Prime Ministers, Ministers, and the like who receive usually assistance from rich and advanced countries like USA, Great Britain, France, or the IMF, or World Bank, or even from the Islamic Banks and funds in Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, and UAE. Charity associations related to religious beliefs (supported officially or privately) also found to be involved in corruption but in low profile. We are not sure, about the size of hidden corruption. In any case these data is only indicates ranks according to Wold Democracy Audit measures.
Among the Arab countries, Democracy and corruption ranking vary. In the following numbers, the least is better in democracy and less in corruption. (meaning, 1 is the best in Democracy or corruption). The first Arab country was UAE ranked 73 in democracy and 23 in corruption, Oman 79, 32, Jordan 77, 36 , Saudi Arabia 104, 36, Kuwait 75, 40, Tunisia 113, 45, Egypt 91, 79 respectively.
The less democratic Arab countries according to the same agency and same scale, was Iraq 123 in democracy, 143 , in corruption , Sudan 136, 143, Yemen 134 , 119, Lebanon was 93 and 101, Syria 134 and 101, Algeria 101 and 83, and Morocco was 95 in democracy and 68 in corruption.
