Two Minutes with Dr. Yahya: In the Doctor’s Clinic!
Socio-Psychology Articles Series: Hasan Yahya, Ph.D
In the doctor’s office, how many times you have to go through the waiting periods in a very small room without windows for the doctor to come and see you in America. First, you go early to your appointment, you will be called after at least half an hour if you are lucky. You think that everything is OK, few minutes you will be out of the physicians office. You will be seated on a chair into a small room, may be 2.5 by 2.5 meters. The nurse will take your weight, your blood pressure (It is going up anyway from waiting-they should take it after the visit not before so you can guess your angry health) and left the room, there is some magazines there, and some advertisement journals about medicine manufacturing, you brows almost all the journals available in that room, while waiting your doctor. A 30 45 minutes time passed, and you still waiting your doctor to knock the room door. When you think that they may forget about you, -as if they knew that you are wandering to be carazy or what-, the doctor opens the door, with a smile. Then you tell her/him of your health problems. Some doctors did not even use their instruments to hear your heart beats, but all they listen to you talking, and some may write notes, for two to five minutes, then he/she will smile, make a joke or two, then said: I’ll recommend you a medicine, a Tylenol or Advil to reduce your stress, that was easy. And you leave, then you ask yourself, Americans pay for their waiting times in the physicians clinics, not for treatment. Every time when you go to the doctor’s clinic, you have to pass through the same model, repeating itself. When you see the bell, you find that you owe a large amount of money for waiting in the clinic. No more. Physicians may be feel angry, to read this, what they will do? They will reduce waiting time by sending their nurse often to visit the patient every half an hour, so their visit will be cherished more. Ask them-the physicians I mean- what they will do after reading this. They will laugh as if it was a joke. May be. May be not.
