Camels and Horses are the two preeminent animals of Arabia. The desert as a habitable place cannot be imagined without these two animals. The importance is related to Bedouin’s daily life. Both animals are used for transportation. The number of camels owned by a person, means the more wealthy and the more wealth in Bedouin society brings bride and would be his rank in the tribe.
In pre-Islamic time, the famous conflict resolution according to Zuhayr bin Abi Salma, the famous poet was made by paying money for the family dead people in the struggle between Dahis and Ghabra tribes. The process was guaranteed by a wealthy person in the tribe.
Camel is the well known companion for Bedouins. Like the cow as an economic source in India. At the desert Bedouin drinks its milk instead of water, he fiasts on its flesh, uses its skin as cover in cold weather, he makes robes, cloth, carpets, he builds his tent from its hair, he uses camel’s dung as fuel, and his urine as a hair tonic and medicin works as a shampoo with odor and perfume to protect himself from insects, bites. In few words, camel for Bedouin is not only as they say: “the ship of the desert” (Safinat al Sahraa) as al Razi, the famous Arab philosopher described it, it is the special miracle, a gift created by God. In fact in Qu’r’an, camels were mentioned 23 times under different names to show the power of the creator, as the creator of heavens and earth, mountains and valleys. The sacred she-camel was mentioned in Prophet Saleh story with his people as the she-camel of God. (Aaraf:73). Is importance was also shown in other places in Qur’an, in tems of transportation safety and security, the camel was similar to the ship in the sea. (alMu’minoon:22). After all, camels are given as an example of Gods power. Qur’an reads: Afal Tanthurun Ila al Ibili Kayfa Khuliqat? (look at the camels how they were vreated?) (al Ghasiyah: 17).
