2Minutes w/Dr Yahya: On “Common Core” Curriculum and Methodology in American Education Style: Grade K Literacy in Social Studies: Thinking About Families
Hasan Yahya, M.A and Ph.D, Educational Administration
Ph.D Comparative Sociology
PART TWO: THE IDEA OF PLANNING AND EXECUTING “COMMON CORE” in the United States schools was raised to overcome deficiency of learning according to old methods compared with world nations. Many professional-educational sites and special discussions were found on the internet, for example, lessonplanet.com. In this series we cover some issues concerning subjects covered in the “Common Core” education and testing in that site.
Describing changes in Common Core education, under the Title : Grade K Literacy in Social Studies: Thinking About Families reads: “Family is a wonderful subject for little learners to get excited about. Family is also the theme for a social studies unit that uses literacy standards throughout. The guide outlines approximately three weeks of instruction and breaks down each Common Core standard addressed by tasks or questions the children will complete or be able to answer. “
The expected result from the above explanation shows that “The kids will become experts on the topic of family through reading, writing, and discussion.” The only thing missing in this resource is an art project. What is kindergarten without an art project?
The word project in business is taking more emphasis in modern management texts. Because any project should have several questions to ask oneself, The common questions include answers to the five “W” words: What? Who? When? Where? and Why? These questions constitute the common core of any project. It helps children in any level to ask and find answers, to have decision making power, to initiate his own imagination in the project selection. And follow certain methodology to answer these questions. AAE
